Sydney Trip

Unfortunately I was feeling slightly uninspired on my recent trip to Sydney and didn't take any photos but thought I would still fill you in on my coffee-drinking, meat-eating tour of the city that is fast growing on me. Ask any Melbourne-ite or Sydney-sider about the great divide between these two big-smoke Australian cities and you will soon discover the clear bias for one or the other. But for me, my lack of love for Sydney was only through lack of knowledge of the place. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's flashy. And yes, it's too cool for school. But there is great diversity and something to offer any desire, be it the beach, high end or vintage shopping, pub or fancy-bar drinking. Don't be so quick to judge. Although I will always call Melbourne home, my need to discover more about Sydney is growing by the trip.

My picks:
Potentially one of the best meals I have eaten all year. Make sure you order the slow roasted lamb and believe me...it's worth the wait!
306 Chalmers St, Redfern

Brave Cafe
This photo says it all really. Amazing hippie cafe with good coffee and breakfast platter for two that would cure any hangover.
68 Gould St, Bondi
A little bit schmancy for my liking, but the food was redic and the service is good.
330 George St, Sydney

The only downside of eating at Italian restaurants for me is the small issue of being wheat intolerant, but being located on the beach in North Bondi helps.
118-120 Ramsgate Ave, North Bondi

Other mentionables were Shady Pines Saloon in Darlinghurst for the whiskey sours, throwing peanut shells on the floor, old-school American rock and array of taxidermy animal heads.
A little overrun with the cool cats of Bondi but Le Paris Go serves good coffee and sunny spots to sit on the street.

Ok, I'll stop talking about food now

Zara Melbourne

Unless you've been living under a rock, you would have heard that an opening date has finally been confirmed for Zara Melbourne (15th June). I don't have high hopes for the Australian-ised version of Zara and will also check out the Sydney store when I'm there later this month. Hopefully I will eat my words but unfortunately some of the romance has already been lost simply by Zara coming here.
